Why it matters

Oil is not just oil

On a European engine the oil specification is a manufacturer approval, not a viscosity grade. Using an oil that merely matches the numbers on the cap can shorten the life of timing components, turbochargers and emissions hardware.

Manufacturer approvals

BMW Longlife, Mercedes-Benz sheet numbers, VW/Audi specifications and Porsche approvals all mean specific additive chemistry — not just a viscosity.

Long-life intervals

Extended intervals only hold up with the oil they were designed around. The wrong oil over a long interval is the worst of both choices.

Turbochargers are unforgiving

A turbo bearing runs hot and lives on clean, correct oil. Coked oil in a turbo is a repair, not a service.

Timing chains and tensioners

Several European engines rely on oil pressure to hold chain tension. Old or wrong oil shows up later as a chain complaint.

Filters are part of the job

A cheap filter with a poor bypass valve or failed anti-drainback undoes the point of good oil. The filter matters as much as what is in it.

Level between services

Some European engines use oil by design. Checking it between changes is normal, not a sign something is wrong.

What we do

What the service includes

The car goes on the lift, so it is the natural moment to look at the things you cannot see from the driver's seat. Anything we find gets reported — you decide what happens next.

No surprises

A service, not a sales pitch

If the filters are fine we say so. If we spot a leak or a worn belt while the car is up, you get told what it is and roughly what it will cost — and it is entirely your call whether it happens today, next visit, or not at all.

Questions

Oil Change — asked and answered

How often should I change the oil in a European car?

Follow the interval in your owner's manual for your engine and driving conditions rather than a generic mileage figure. Short trips and cold-weather driving — both common in the North Country — are hard on oil, so shorter intervals are often the sensible choice.

Do you use the right oil for my car?

Yes. European engines call for oils carrying specific manufacturer approvals, and that is what goes in. Tell us your year, make, model and engine when you book.

Can you change the cabin and engine air filters at the same time?

Yes — both are part of what we check on an oil service, and we will only recommend replacing them if they need it.
