Electrical faults are the ones people live with longest and regret most. They also tend to get worse in exactly the weather when you need the car to start.
A battery that is fine in September is often marginal in January. Testing takes minutes and beats a no-start in a parking lot.
A parasitic drain — a module not going to sleep, or a switch staying live. It is traceable, and it will not fix itself.
Usually the alternator or its belt, sometimes wiring. Driving on it means eventually running the car entirely off the battery.
Charging output, a poor ground, or corroded connections. All three are worth finding before they take something else with them.
Motors, switches and the modules that drive them. Common on European cars and entirely fixable once the fault is traced properly.
Frequently one cause — a low battery voltage or a failing module upsetting everything on the bus. Worth diagnosing as one fault rather than six.

Electrical diagnosis is about testing circuits rather than swapping parts. The upside is that once the fault is actually found, the repair is usually far smaller than feared.
New batteries often need coding
On a lot of European cars the charging system is managed by a module that has to be told a new battery has been fitted, and its type and capacity. Skip that step and the new battery gets charged to the old one's profile, which shortens its life. It is part of the job here.

How long should a car battery last?
In a cold climate, several years is typical, but the useful figure is its tested condition rather than its age. A battery test takes only a few minutes and is the reliable way to know.
Why does my battery keep going flat?
If the battery and the charging system both test good, the usual cause is a parasitic drain — something staying awake when the car is off. That is traced circuit by circuit until the culprit shows up.
Does a new battery need to be programmed in a European car?
On many European models, yes — the battery management system needs to be told about the replacement. We handle that as part of fitting it.
